Can you please provide a little introduction about yourself

As a CIO and founder of the non-profit www.greencio.org, I believe there is a large opportunity for CIOs to help get their companies to build a carbon zero plan.

What has your journey to your position been like? What path have you taken?

CIOs are always looking for reasons to “stay at the strategic table” with fellow CXOs. CIOs can provide innovation and leadership in helping their company have a carbon-zero plan.

Has it always been your vision to reach the position you’re at? Was your current role part of your vision to become a tech leader?

Becoming a CIO is a huge commitment with lots of compromises along the way. We have a unique view of our organizations and must work hard to bring innovation for growth and cost cutting to the table. A carbon zero plan is a way to do that in the 2020’s.

How do you see the role of the technology leader evolving over the next 5 years?

Support, cloud and security are table stakes. The future is about helping growth, reduce costs and use a smart climate strategy to create competitive advantage.

What skills do you think leaders of the future will need in order to thrive?

Relationship-oriented, Message savvy, and Strategic.

How do you keep current with new skills, technologies and personal development?

Read, engage vendors and virtual seminars.

What do you see as the next leap in technology that will impact your business or industry in particular?

CIOs will be asked to help their company have a carbon-zero strategy.

“Be strategic, have a carbon zero strategy.”

If you were mentoring a leader of the future, what advice or guidance would you give to help them on their way?

Be strategic; have a carbon-zero strategy.

Is there anything in particular that you would still like to achieve in your career or what is the next step on your journey?

Reduce Earth’s carbon emissions to 0 and build jobs with a new energy economy.

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?

The US has a carbon emissions market and requires a license for a gun (just like driving).

A big thank you to Andy Draper from HCA Healthcare for sharing his journey to date.
